Forwarding a Mitel 6930/6940 IP phone can be done directly through the physical handset interface using the softkeys. Depending on your system configuration, you can set up forwarding for all calls or only under specific conditions (like when the line is busy).
Direct Call Forwarding
To forward all incoming calls to another internal extension or an external number:
-
Locate the Call Forward Key: Look for the Call Forward softkey on the home screen. If you don't see it, press the More (dots) softkey to cycle through the available menu options.
-
Enter the Destination: Once the Call Forward menu opens, enter the number where you want the calls sent.
-
Internal: Enter the extension number.
-
External: Enter the external dialing prefix (usually 9 or 8) followed by the full phone number.
-
-
Activate: Press the Activate or Save softkey. You will typically see a "Call Forward" icon appear in the status bar at the top of the screen to indicate it is active.
Deactivating Call Forwarding
To turn off the forwarding and resume receiving calls at your desk:
-
Press the Call Forward softkey again.
-
Select the Deactivate softkey. The icon should disappear from your home screen.
[!NOTE] If you are trying to forward to an external cell phone and it fails, your system may have a "Class of Service" restriction preventing external-to-external transfers. You may need to check with your IT support to ensure your extension has the correct permissions.
