Windows Logout Procedure

1 min. readlast update: 12.05.2024

There is a difference between logging out of windows and disconnecting your windows session.  When you disconnect your session, your account is still logged into windows for about 30 minutes after you disconnect, meaning if you log back in during that time you will be on the same server with all programs running as when you disconnected, and you continue to use the same login session.  When you log out (or sign out) your account is shut down on the server and all programs you had open stop running.  When you log back in you may or may not be logged back into the same server and you are starting with a fresh login session.

Logging out (or signing out) can resolve many issues you may run into such as unexpected printer behavior, strange issues with programs, problems with email, and many others.  Try this before contacting IT and it just may clear up your issue.

To properly log out of windows you must do the following.

Click the windows button

Click the icon that looks like a head and shouders

Click sign out
